The Megane isn't a brilliant car, electrical problems mainly.
But to say that an old car can't be reliable is bullshit.
I run a Volvo V70 that I gave £600 for nearly two years ago. Have put 50k miles on it near enough, and other than consumables, it's cost £107 for a new lambda sensor to get it through it's MOT.
Choose carefully and you can motor for next to free.

For example, I'd start it in the morning, put it into reverse and the boot would open.
Didn't like that car.

Had a 52 plate a few years ago. Lots went wrong with electrical bits, which is apparently very common with French cars.

Come on boys - work it out. Their value plummets as they get so expensive when things go wrong (as they do as cars get older).
Avoid like the plague unless you are willing to sell it for scrap when something goes wrong.
The french drink every lunchtime at work not just Fridays (ref Friday afternoon cars).

Bromley Got a scenic with an electric hand brake. Seems to be a really obvious case of reinventing the wheel

Are they the ones with the electronic hand-brake? If so, they're a royal pain in the arse.

OK for a 2nd or 3rd car for fun on sunny days. As a daily driver it will end up costing a fortune to keep it on the road.
There's a reason they're cheap.

I was looking recently at them as my car is on the way out. Love the massive sunroofs on the normal models but not a fan of the convertables. Sounds a bit pricey to me, I saw a couple advertised on an 07 plate with low miliage (one was 37k) for around £1700.
